Beginners Yoga · Taught by Akhilraj Rajendran
Everyone Who Practises Yoga Was Once Unable to Do Any of It
This batch assumes nothing. No previous experience, no flexibility, no equipment beyond a mat. You learn the postures, the breathing and the safe way to move, from the first session onward.

The thing stopping most people
You Do Not Have to Be Flexible to Begin
The belief that you must already be able to fold in half is the single biggest reason people never start. It has it backwards. Flexibility is what practice produces, not what it demands.
A good beginners class gives you a version of each posture that suits the body you have today, then moves the bar as you improve. Nothing is held past the point of usefulness, and nothing hurts.
The first month
What You Actually Learn, in Order
Breath before posture
How to breathe deliberately, and why every posture is built on it. Unglamorous and the most useful thing you will learn.
The foundation postures
A small set you will use for years, taught properly rather than quickly, with the alignment corrected live.
Putting it together
Short sequences you can hold, linking breath to movement, so a practice becomes something you can do alone.
Who joins this batch
Mostly People Who Have Been Meaning To For Years
- You have never done yoga and would rather not start in a room full of people who have
- You sit at a desk and can feel what it is doing to you
- A doctor has suggested movement and you do not know where to begin
- You tried following videos alone and gave up, or hurt yourself
- You want something you can keep doing, not a six-week challenge
If you have a specific health condition, say so when you enquire. You may be better served by therapeutic yoga, which is built around exactly that.
Format
How the Batch Runs
Live, online
Taught in real time so Akhilraj can see and correct you. Not a recording.
Malayalam and English
Instruction you can follow without translating in your head.
Small groups
Small enough that you are seen and corrected, rather than lost in a grid.
What you need
A mat, a phone or laptop, and enough floor space to lie down.
Content still needed:
Beginners batch timings, morning and evening, and the session length.
Questions
Beginners Yoga FAQ
I cannot touch my toes. Is that a problem?
No, and it is the single most common worry we hear. Flexibility is a result of practice, not a requirement for starting it. You will be given a version of each posture that fits what your body does today.
Will I be the least able person in the class?
Everyone in a beginners batch is a beginner, which is rather the point. It is a live class, so Akhilraj can see you, but nobody else is studying your form.
How long before I feel a difference?
Most beginners notice better sleep and less stiffness inside three to four weeks of practising regularly. Visible change takes longer.
What if I miss a week?
You pick up where you left off. Life happens, and a batch that punishes you for missing sessions is not a batch worth joining.
Do I need a mat before the first class?
Not for a trial. A mat helps once you commit, but a folded blanket on a hard floor works for your first few sessions.
The First Class Costs Nothing
Come to one session before you decide anything. If it is not for you, that is a useful thing to have found out for free.
